Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock: Premieres Earth Day at Tribeca Film Festival

Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock film by Oscar Nominees Josh Fox and James Spione and Native filmmaker Myron Dewey

Today, Earth Day, Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock, is premiering at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival as part of the festival’s N.O.W. special screening section. AWAKE, A Dream From Standing Rock will also be available for a limited time online at awakethefilm.org and interested viewers will be able to stream for a donation of $1 or more from April 22nd to May 6th.

Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock is a feature-length documentary directed by Academy Award nominated filmmaker and activist Josh Fox (Gasland, How To Let Go Of The World And Learn To Love Everything Climate Can’t Change), Academy Award nominated filmmaker James Spione (Incident In New Baghdad) and indigenous filmmaker and Digital Smoke Signals founder Myron Dewey.

The film tells the story of the #NODAPL Native-led resistance against the construction of the $3.7 billion Dakota Access Pipeline under the Missouri River at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota.

In a press release, Fox said about Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock, “The battle that began at Standing Rock is a battle for the soul of America itself, and it is far from over. This film is part of the rallying cry for indigenous sovereignty and clean water that has resonated across the globe. It has been a great honor and privilege to work with people from Standing Rock, like Floris White Bull and Doug Good Feather, who have guided this project every step of the way.”

Executive produced by Doug Good Feather, Emmy Award winning filmmaker Amy Zeirling (The Invisible War, The Hunting Grounds) and Lauren Taschen, the Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock film’s score features music from indigenous musician/activists Nahko, (Nahko and Medicine for the People) and Prolific the Rapper. Floris White Bull and Doug Good Feather serve as advisors, White Bull is also one of the film’s writers.

The premiere will feature an opening prayer from Doug Good Feather, a live performance from Prolific the Rapper and a conversation with filmmakers Josh Fox, Myron Dewey, and Floris White Bull.

All proceeds will be donated to the non-profit International Wow, whose mission through the Pipeline Fighters Fund and Indigenous Media Fund, is to support future pipeline battles and indigenous journalists.
