Chilling Rez Drama ‘Rhymes for Young Ghouls’ Secures U.S. Distribution

Even in 2013's crowded field of intriguing and excellent films by and about Natives, Rhymes for Young Ghouls stood out as a must-see. To date, that see-ability has happened at film festivals, where Rhymes, its star Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs (Mohawk) and its director Jeff Barnaby (Mi'kmaq) have been warmly received.

• Toronto International Film Festival: North American Premiere – Selected as one of the Top 10 Canadian Films of the Year

• Tribeca Film Festival: Winner: Creative Promise Awards- The narrative Rhymes for Young Ghouls – 2012 Tribeca All Access (TAA)

• Seattle International Film Festival: U.S. Premiere

• Winner: Best First Feature prize – Vancouver International Film Festival

• Winner: Best Director of a Canadian Film -2014 Vancouver Film Critics Association

• Runner-Up: Best International First Feature award, Galway (Ireland) Film Fleadh

Monterey Media has announced in a news release that it has acquired all U.S. rights to the film, enabling Rhymes for Young Ghouls to reach more audiences. The film will screen in August in Washington, D.C., New York, and Santa Fe presented by the Smithsonian Institution. A theatrical release is planned for October, and a DVD release is also planned.

"Those of you who live in the states and who've been asking to see the film, your prayers have been answered," reads a post at the official Rhymes for Young Ghouls Facebook page. "Now please help us spread the news."
