On July 24th, 1971, "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" sat atop the Billboard pop chart, and the chorus of "Cherokee people! Cherokee tribe!" could be heard blasting from radios all across Turtle Island. The song was written over a decade earlier by John D. Loudermilk. It's hokey, and melodramatic, and perhaps offensive — but it's catchy too. Through the magic of YouTube, we bring you ten tributes to American Indians by mainstream rock acts.
This playlist is 100% Nugent-free.
PAUL REVERE AND THE RAIDERS, "INDIAN RESERVATION"
