Quentin Tarantino Names ‘Lone Ranger’ to His Top 10 of 2013 List

Director Quentin Tarantino has issued a list of his picks for 10 best films of the year, and many cinemaphiles are puzzled by the inclusion of The Lone Ranger, a film that was panned by critics and bombed at the box office. The film also drew sharp criticism from Natives for Johnny Depp's Tonto character. Executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer (who has since parted ways with Disney) has said that The Lone Ranger was treated unfairly, and that as time goes by it will be better appreciated. Whether Tarantino's endorsement (he also picked Kick Ass 2) will pave the way for a Lone Ranger reappraisal remains to be seen, although some commenters on the post at Tarantino.info stepped up to defend the film. Here's the full list of films (with directors in parentheses), provided by Tarantino in alphabetical order:

1.  Afternoon Delight (Jill Soloway)
2.  Before Midnight (Richard Linklater)
3.  Blue Jasmine (Woody Allen)
4.  The Conjuring (James Wan)
5.  Drinking Buddies (Joe Swanberg)
6.  Frances Ha (Noah Baumbach)
7.  Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón)
8.  Kick Ass 2 (Jeff Wadlow)
9.  The Lone Ranger (Gore Verbinski)
10.  This Is The End (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg)
