Inuk vocalist Tanya Tagaq has released her newest video Sivulivinivut from her last album Retribution, released in October 2016 by Six Shooter Records. Tanya Tagaq’s album is now short-listed for the Polaris Music Prize.
Tanya Tagaq’s Retribution has received major international exposure thus far, including coverage from such publications as Pitchfork, The NY Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, CBC, Globe and Mail, and The Guardian.
Edited by Light Echo Productions, Tanya Tagaq’s video Sivulivinivut which translates as ‘ancestors,’ is a rare occasion of Tagaq singing in Inuktitut.

Other tracks on Retribution include the song Centre, a hip-hop number featuring Canadian rapper Shad. The title track Retribution is an 8-minute statement on climate change and violence. The album also contains a delicate cover of Nirvana’s Rape Me.

On Feb 21, 2017 Polaris prize winners Buffy Sainte-Marie and Tanya Tagaq co-released a new music video titled You Got To Run (Spirit Of The Wind.)Both Buffy Sainte-Marie and Tanya Tagaq are recipients of the coveted Polaris Music prize, a non-profit organization that annually honors and rewards artists who produce Canadian music albums of distinction.
In 2017, Tanya Tagaq has added composer to her list of accomplishments with contributions to the Kronos Quartet’s Fifty for the Future project, and work entitled Qiksaatuq at the New Creations Festival with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Tanya Tagaq also spoke at this year’s EMP PopCon in Seattle, where she participated in the Music & Politics keynote alongside Mike Hadreas from Perfume Genius and Meredith Graves from Perfect Pussy.
