TV talk show host Suzanne Roberts, at 93, has announced that she will give $2 million to Johns Hopkins University to establish the Suzanne Roberts Native American Dream Fund at the school’s Center for American Indian Health.

The gift, she recounted to the Philadelphia Inquirer upon announcing the award on November 14, stemmed from an unforgettable summer she spent working on the Navajo Nation reservation in 1969.

“I have never forgotten the Navajo children and families that I had the chance to work with that summer,” Roberts told the Inquirer. “It became my passion, and helped to define me as a person. It was one of the great privileges of my life.”

The memorable summer vacation was taken with her husband, Comcast cofounder Ralph Roberts, and their five children, including company CEO Brian Roberts, she said.

The Johns Hopkins center runs 12 health clinics on the Navajo, White Mountain Apache, San Carlos Apache, and New Mexico Pueblos reservations, the newspaper said.

This marks the largest donation the center has ever received.

“I’m sort of coming to the end of my life,” Roberts told the Inquirer. “I can really be helpful to people like this.”
