Dylon Poncho has made a verbal commitment to Louisiana State University

Kinder High’s Junior Shortstop Already Commits to LSU

Dylon Poncho has been recruited to play for Louisiana State University. Poncho, a member of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, will be the first Kinder High Schooler to play baseball for the Tigers.

“This is a dream come true, going to LSU,” said Poncho, who has verbally committed to the school. “I always wanted to go there. Go, Tigers!”

As a freshman at Kinder, he started at shortstop intermittently; in his sophomore year, he played shortstop full-time. Now, in his junior year, with baseball season coming, Poncho has a lot to look forward to.

“Dylon had a great summer,” Kinder High baseball coach Kenny Courville told to the Kinder Courier News. “He showed a lot of work ethic, got seen in some tournaments and did some things in fall showcases and LSU coaches became interested in him and offered him a chance.”

The 5-foot-10, 170 pound righthander also played for a team sponsored by Marucci—the baseball bat manufacturing company that also facilitates a prep baseball team —where he batted over .400.

Last year, he helped get the Kinder Yellow Jackets to the state semifinals, batting .520 in District 4-2A play.

“Dylon was our statistical leader in hitting,” Courville told the Courier News. “He hits it to all fields, and has developed power as well. He can hit for average and power, which is another thing that makes him very attractive [to LSU]. I’m happy for Dylon.”

“Visiting LSU was an amazing experience,” Poncho told the paper. “The coaches are great, and the facilities and fans are amazing. I can’t wait to get over there.”
