Navajo Golfer Rickie Fowler in Top 5 after Abu Dhabi Win

Dressed in his trademark orange polo shirt, Navajo pro-golfer Rickie Fowler recovered from a disheartening double-bogey on his final round 7th hole by with a 30-yard eagle at hole 8 and a birdie at hole 17 to win the Abu Dhabi Championship on Sunday.

The win by Fowler over Thomas Pieters, who came in second and Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson, who tied for third, moved him from 6th-ranked worldwide to #4  in the Official World Golf Ranking, behind number-one ranked Jordan Spieth, second ranked Jason Day and 3rd-ranked McIlroy.

Fowler told the PGA he would thrilled to be part of the world’s top five.

“I want to be part of the crew. It would be a pretty good foursome,” Fowler said. “I think I mentioned through the summer at some point, I said I was a sneaky fourth. We’ve got to take care of a major and then maybe I can join the crew.”

“This was a big one,” Fowler told ibtimes. “Last year, obviously, having a multiple-win season [was big], but… this was a great start and a great field…  it was a lot of fun today. It was a bit stressful at times. Thomas [Pieters] was playing well, it was fun to go head to head with him in the same group. We had a good time and it is just nice to come out on top this week.”

This was Fowler’s fourth win at the world level in nine months, including wins at The Players Championship, the Scottish Open and the Deutsche Bank Championship last year.

It is also one more rebuttal from Fowler in response to an anonymous survey in Sports Illustrated in which his peers voted him and fellow golfer Ian Poulter the most overrated players in the game.
