Redskins Players Salute Mike Brown As Their Name-Change Debate Rages

The Redskins’ defensive backs made protests of their own. Several players ran on to the field with their hands in the surrender or “don’t shoot” position, which has become a symbolic statement about the reckless killings by policemen of minority youths.

Washington NFL fans and others commented on the gesture via Deadspin, and it was mostly viewed as strong statement despite the ongoing calls by Native American groups, congressmen, professional athletes and the president to change the team’s racist name.
