Shoshone-Bannock Tribe Hosts National Basketball Tournament

FORT HALL, ID—On March 6-8, the Shoshone-Bannock tribe will host the Fort Hall Men’s National Indian Athletic Association’s (NIAA) 6-foot and Under All-Indian National Basketball at the Timbee Hall and Shoshone-Bannock High School in Fort Hall, Idaho. 

More than 28 tribal teams have entered the tournament and are representing Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, South Dakota, North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, with ten teams coming from Montana. Five teams from Fort Hall will also compete, including the defending champions, Blindside.

The championship games will be held in the Sho-Ban High School gym on March 8. There will be 3 places, ten All- Tourney Jackets and one MVP award. The champions will receive leather Pendleton letterman jackets locally sewn by a tribal member and a trophy. 

Miss Shoshone-Bannock Queen, Taylor Thomas, and Miss Indian Nations, Alexandria Alvarez and others will be on site to assist with awards on Saturday evening. 

“This annual basketball tournament is a local favorite and will bring much business to the Fort Hall, Pocatello and Blackfoot areas,” said Mike “Sak” Sakelaris, Fort Hall recreation director, in a press release. “We hope you join us in welcoming our guests and their families from out of state.”

The games will be held at both Timbee Hall and Sho-Ban school gym in Fort Hall. The admission price is: $5.00 adults, $4 students (with ID card) and $3 for elders and young children (children 1 years of age or younger are free).
