YouTube user Susie, a Haida speaker from Alaska, sits down to discuss basic definitions of what language revitalization actually is.
She first goes to Wikipedia for a definition, then turns to the Haida Language Learners’ Facebook community to answer the question “What is language revitalization?”
One of the answers she reads: “Honoring our ancestors… our Native language is dying slowly, need more people to step up… young people.”
Susie explains that there are basic steps to language revitalization including remembering the past, creating something new, and to practice.
What is language revitalization to you? What does it mean to your people?
