‘All in for California’ Website Supports Internet Gambling

The California Online Poker Association (COPA), a group of 21 tribes and non-Indian card clubs, launched the All In For California website to encourage people to vote yes on the passage of SB 40, which would legalize and regulate Internet gambling in the state, reported californiawatch.org.

Authored by Sen. Lou Correa, D-Santa Ana, the bill would require operators, including tribes, to pay the state government a fee.

Revenue from online gambling in California is expected to reach $1 billion within the next decade—a way to help revive California’s $25 billion budget gap.

The California Tribal Business Alliance opposes the bill. Some tribes claim online gambling will deter customers from their casinos—a theory Casino City Times says has been debunked multiple times.

Another bill to legalize online gaming, introduced by state Sen. Rod Wright, D-Los Angeles, SB 45, is not supported by COPA because it fails to clearly protect tribes from state taxes on Internet gaming revenue, reported Capitol Weekly.
