American Indian College Fund Promotes One of Its Own

Born and raised on the Flathead Indian Reservation in northwestern Montana, Casey Lozar, of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, will continue his career in Native American education as the vice president of resource development for the Denver, Colorado-based American Indian College Fund (the fund).

He was previously the director of corporate and tribal development, where he raised nearly $10 million since 2007 for scholarships for Native American students attending tribal colleges and universities.

Lozar was named one of the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development’s Native American 40 Under 40 in 2010, and was named as one of 12 Independent Sector NGEN Leadership Fellows.

He’s been involved with Native American education for years, as a schoolteacher, coach, tribal culture camp leader and fundraiser. According to the press release, Lozar believes in the tribal college cause because he’s seen the impact if has had on his own community and family. His father taught at Salish Kootenai College (SKC) for 32 years and his mother graduated from there. SKC, a tribal college in Montana, has graduated Lozar’s brothers and cousins as well.

Lozar got his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and did his graduate work at Harvard University. He is working on his MBA at the University of Colorado at Denver right now.
