Arctic Coral—Who Knew?

Who knew? The Arctic has its share of coral just like the Caribbean. Only here, it’s under the ice.

Arctic coral, like reefs all over the world, is in danger from global warming and increasingly acidic seas. ABC Online Australia reported in 2008 on how indigenous knowledge is helping soften climate change’s effects on coral.

MacGillivray Freeman Films, known for its 3D documentaries, has turned its attention to the top of the world and climate change. A film on climate change coming out in spring 2011 will feature the Canadian Arctic’s coral. The Canadian Museum of Civilization is co-sponsoring the film.

Here’s a story of coral off Alaska.

CNN reported on the environmental group Greenpeace’s footage of Arctic coral last summer.
