Bill Clinton Read Hungrily About Chiefs as a Kid

Former President Bill Clinton appeared on the Today Show this morning to recommend his holiday book picks. Turns out his love of reading was generated in part by his hunger to learn about American Indians.

“I had a whole period when I was eight or nine when I read every biography of every Indian chief America ever produced, and I tried to learn about the Native Americans,” he told co-host Ann Curry, adding that reading “just always stayed with me.”

On the way he talks about Newt Gingrich, the recent credit he took for balancing the budget way back when, and the role of mud-slinging in ferreting out the most durable Presidential candidate.

It’s all worth a look and a listen.
