Cherokee Nation Businesses presented a $20,000 check to the Tulsa Area United Way as part of the agency’s 2013 resource campaign. The support comes just a day before the agency will reveal the results of its fundraising efforts this year.
"Cherokee Nation Businesses embraces a shared vision with the Tulsa Area United Way – utilizing community resources to help improve lives locally," said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker. “The Cherokee Nation has long been supportive of our local nonprofits, because we see the value of our dollars being reinvested into our communities.”
Tulsa Area United Way works to advance the common good by building a better quality of life through education, financial stability, and health and safety. The organization works with 62 partner agencies, reaching more than 600,000 people each year. This past year, United Way partner agencies provided services to more than 28,000 Native Americans.
“We are proud to work in partnership with Cherokee Nation Businesses in advancing the quality of life in our community,” said Mark R. Graham, president and CEO of the Tulsa Area United Way. “Cherokee Nation employees understand what it means to ‘Live United’ by offering their passion, expertise and resources to help their friends and neighbors through support of the United Way.”
The goal of this year’s campaign is $25.2 million, the largest goal in the history of the Tulsa Area United Way.
This past year, Cherokee Nation Businesses employees volunteered more than 4,000 hours with several agencies throughout northeast Oklahoma. The company and its employees provide financial support through sponsorships, in-kind contributions and volunteer service hours throughout the year.
“Our employees have a passion for helping the community,” said Shawn Slaton, chief executive officer of CNB. “Our partnership with United Way is another way for us, as a company, to share that passion and positively impact Native Americans in our local communities.”
CNB, the tribally owned holding company of the Cherokee Nation, owns companies in the gaming, hospitality, personnel services, distribution, manufacturing, telecommunications, information technology and environmental services industries.
