Canada Holds USA in Semifinals, Faces Finland

Team USA's wish did not come true this year.

Canada defeated the USA in overtime 1-0 and is headed to the finals against Sweden on Sunday. The USA and Finland will play for the bronze medal on Saturday.

The Americans entered the rematch hoping for redemption from their defeat four years ago in Vancouver. The United States has not won a gold medal since the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.

Early in the second period, Jamie Benn redirected a shot by Jay Bouwmeester and scored Canada’s only goal. This offense was all that was needed by Carey Price, Ulkatcho First Nation, the Montreal goalie easily handled the Americans' power plays.

In the third period, T.J. Oshie blocked a shot from Rick Nash that thwarted a strong effort after yet another disorganized scramble by the Americans in their own zone, said USA Today.

Price prevented Team USA from scoring with a shutout, 31 saves.

The USA just wasn’t on their game.
