In an incredible sweep, both the Onondaga Community College’s (OCC) men’s and women’s lacrosse teams won NJCAA national championships this year. in 2009 OCC became the first college in NJCAA history to achieve two simultaneous national championships in men’s and women’s lacrosse. According to Onondaga Nation Faithkeeper Oren Lyons, a former lacrosse goalie for Syracuse University, two-time third-team All-American, co-captain of the Syracuse University team in 1957 and 1958, and 1992 inductee into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, these dual national championships are “unprecedented in the history of the game.” To have accomplished this feat a second time, as OCC has done this year, is one of the most impressive accomplishments in all of college athletics.
A luncheon honoring the teams will be held Saturday, October 6 in the Gordon Student Center Great Room on the school’s campus in Syracuse, New York. The luncheon begins at 1:30 p.m. During the event team members and coaches will receive their championship rings. Also, before the luncheon at 11 a.m. at Murphy Field, a scrimmage will take place between Onondaga lacrosse alumni and members of the 2013 Men’s team.
