Actor Chaske Spencer will be the star attraction of the coming Harvest Pow Wow, taking place at Naperville Settlement this Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, in Naperville, Illinois, according to a report at DailyHerald.com.
Spencer, Assiniboine and Sioux, one of today’s biggest young Native actors, will be portraying Sam Uley for the fourth and final time in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, coming out in November. In the movies, he plays a shape-shifting Quileute Indian who can transform into a wolf. Wolves will be a theme of the weekend as Spencer joins Denise Kinsey in “connecting the dots,” as the Herald puts it, “between this wild animal and its spiritual connection to Native Americans.”
“We refer to them as our spirit brothers,” Kinsey told the Herald. “We always walked side by side with the wolves. It’s a very spiritual thing.” With her wolf dog named Suka, Kinsey serves as an ambassador for Wolf Mountain, a wolf sanctuary in southern California. The wolves in the Twilight movies ow a lot to those at Wolf Mountain, whose behavior informed the filmmaking process.
Spencer will be appearing from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Grand Entriy ceremonies are scheduled for 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Naper Settlement is located at 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.
