Cherokee Nation Purchases Tech Services Firm

With the buyout of a Colorado-based management and staffing solutions firm, the Cherokee Nation increased its technology arm and added 375 employees to its growing business division.

Cherokee Nation Businesses recently purchased ETI Professionals (ETI) for an undisclosed amount.

David Stewart, the CEO of Cherokee Nation Businesses, said the purchase of ETI builds on its plans to create more tech work.

“We have a major focus, as part of our diversification strategy, to get into IT space,” he said.

The Lakewood, Colorado-based company services many large federal agencies and commercial clients. Soon to be renamed Cherokee Nation Government Solutions, in addition to transferring headquarters to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stewart reassured current employees—dispersed over 40 states—that no layoffs or major changes are in store. ETI’s president and founder, Susan Holland, and its part owners Greg Kilkenny and Allen Christy indicated intention to stay with the company in a news release.

Cherokee Principal Chief Chad Smith linked the acquisition with job creation and increased funding.

“This acquisition allows us to continue our proven model of diversifying our business holdings, while also creating careers and building the overall economy in northeast Oklahoma through the future growth of all our IT companies,” Smith said. “In addition to creating jobs, a company like ETI will help generate funding for services to our Cherokee citizens.”
