Cheyenne River Youth Project Hosts Basketball Tournament

On Tuesday, November 22, a 5-on-5 basketball tournament called the Cokata Wiconi Shootout will be taking place in the Cokata Wiconi Teen Center Gymnasium in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.  As a part of the  Cheyenne River Youth Project® (CRYP),  the basketball tournament is a fundraiser to support the organization’s ongoing operations, programming and services.

The CRYP has a two-prong approach to raising funds: first, each five-member, one-sub team must secure community sponsorship for its $20 participation fee, second, each player will be approaching local businesses and individuals to pledge a certain amount of money for each point that player scores.

“Not only will this raise money to support our youth organization, it’ll also add an extra measure of excitement to the tournament,” said Tammy Granados, CRYP’s wellness coordinator and the tournament organizer in a CRYP press release. “The spectators will have a lot of fun watching each shot, knowing that each point increases the amount of money being raised. And we’re thrilled to host an event like this, since it’s the way our teenagers chose to support the center they love.”

All teams must be registered by Monday, November 14, and all players who intend to seek pledges also must fill out special permission slips by that date. Then, CRYP will be able to post player profiles on its website at,  as well as on its dedicated Facebook page.
