Choctaw Nation School Eligible for Federal Funding Again

Tulsa World recently reported that thanks to U.S. Rep Dan Boren, Jones Academy, a school started by the Choctaw Nation in 1891 near Hartshorne, Oklahoma is again eligible for federal funding. The school is now back under the Bureau of Indian Education school system.

“Restoring Jones Academy to the BIA has been a priority of mine,” Boren told Tulsa World, adding that the Jones Academy’s removal from the system dates back to a federal government program in the 1950s.
