The 37th annual Denver March Pow Wow kicks off on Friday, March 18th. Before you can enjoy the Grand Entry and the Heart Beat drum group singing “A Living Hoop,” now’s the time to start taking care of the logistics. We’re here to help:
The Venue: The Denver Coliseum
Owned by the city and county of Denver, the Denver Coliseum qualifies as historic, having been around for more than 50-years, this former home of the Denver Nuggets now hosts an eclectic mix of entertainment, from the epic Denver March Pow Wow (more than 50,000 people attend each year), to Disney on Ice, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, roller derbies, concerts, a Mineral, Fossil, Gem and Jewelry Show, cheerleading competitions, Mexican dances, and a host of other events. The Coliseum sits atop the original stop where the Denver Pacific Railway broke ground on its Cheyenne line in 1868.
Address: 4600 Humboldt Street, Denver, Colorado, 80222. The Coliseum is located off of I-70, just east of its intersection with I-25. The exit is the Brighton Boulevard Exit. You can also get to the Coliseum using the RTD Bus Line #48.
From Interstate 25: On I-25 take the I-70 East Exit
From Interstate 70: Take Brighton Blvd. Exit off I-70 (right lane exits) either direction. If you are eastbound on I-70, the exit will curve around so you can see the front of the Coliseum. Stay in the right lane. If you are westbound on I-70, the exit will take you under the Interstate but you will be able to see the Coliseum a few blocks away.
For visitors with disabilities, you can contact Guest Service Manager, Steve Jorgensen, ahead of time to request special assistance, at (720) 865-2477, or email him at email@example.com. Restrooms and walkways are accessible for those in wheelchairs.
Parking behind the Coliseum will run you $8 to $10 without any in/out privileges. The Committee has a limited amount of parking passes that are good all weekend long that cost $25. Handicap parking is directly across from the Main Coliseum entrance.

March is often the snowiest month in the Denver area, the time of year when big blizzards come bursting onto the scene, sometimes literally as the weather can be highly volatile. March is the beginning of spring, which can bring unparalleled beauty once the snow starts melting from the mountains (the runoff births bright green vegetation and flowers), but be prepared for any kind of weather and pack for snow, just in case.
Video and digital camera permits must be purchased. They cost $30 on Friday, $20 on Saturday, and $10 on Sunday. The permit application stipulates that the applicant can tape grand entries, contest dancing, and inter-tribal dancing. The camera permit must be clearly visible on the camera so security personnel can check it, and tripods are not permitted. Camera and video footage must be taken without obstructing anyone’s views or interfering with drummers or dancers. Video and photos are for personal use only, and cannot be copied or sold.
