Dirk Whitebreast, secretary for the Sac and Fox Tribal Council, explains how he uses Facebook to garner votes and promote tribal government transparency and accountability.

“I give Facebook a lot of credit for actually getting my votes,” he said. “I think the youth votes showed up, once they saw me posting online, which was really exciting. It was a really exciting time,” he said, showing his online campaign to Tama County New Media Pioneers.

By posting his trips to the capitol in Washington D.C., he shows tribal members who are Facebook users how the tribe is advancing, in addition to establishing an image of authenticity.
