FireKeepers Casino celebrates first anniversary

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek, Mich., owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP), will celebrate their one year anniversary this August.

FireKeepers Casino opened its doors to the public Aug. 5, 2009, with 34 acres of the 78 acre site developed into a 207,000 square foot Las Vegas-style gaming facility. FireKeepers brought Las Vegas-style gaming and a new economic engine to south central Michigan. Impact to the local economy has been felt through providing 1,500 jobs, an estimated $10.2 million in annual purchasing within 60 miles of the casino, along with a $1.9 million check to the Local Revenue Sharing Board.

“The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi began planning for this casino over 10 years ago,” said Homer A. Mandoka, Tribal Chair of the NHBP. “Seeing FireKeepers Casino become a reality and a success has been very rewarding for the membership of our Tribe. We also appreciate the support that we have received from the local community”

To celebrate the one year anniversary, FireKeepers will be giving away more than $275,000 in cash and prizes during the month of August, including a year’s worth of gas to 12 winners, a year’s worth of groceries to six winners and a year’s mortgage payment to three lucky winners. Red Hot Rewards Club members can begin earning entries towards the year giveaways on July 24 – Aug. 29. Red Hot Rewards Club members will receive one free entry into the promotion, along with earning 1 entry for every 100 points earned by playing any of FireKeepers’ 2,680 slot machines or 78 table games.

In addition to the gas, grocery and mortgage giveaways, FireKeepers Casino will celebrate their one year anniversary with a variety of entertainment, including The Black Crowes performing live on July 24, Kathy Griffin on July 29 and Dierks Bentley on July 31. Tickets can be purchased at Trader’s Blanket gift shop inside FireKeepers Casino. FireKeepers will also offer free live entertainment seven days a week in Kabaret. Free entertainment will also include Las Vegas inspired living statues. The living statues, provided by Galaxy Entertainment, who also provided the cirque-style entertainment during FireKeepers’ grand opening one year ago, will be on display from Aug. 1 – 7.

Building on its fun and vibrant atmosphere, FireKeepers has something to offer every day of the week during the month long celebration. Every Monday and Tuesday, guests can enjoy slot tournaments with a $5,000 prize pool. Tournaments are from 4 – 8:45 p.m., with the final round at 9:15 p.m. To qualify, guests simply need to register 20 points on their Red Hot Rewards Club card on the day of the tournament for the chance to win the grand prize of $1,500 in cash.

Every Tuesday, FireKeepers will offer half-off lunch and dinner in Mijem Buffet to Red Hot Rewards Club members. The 300-seat buffet serves an endless variety of fresh hot and cold favorites including hand-carved meats, seafood, Asian, Italian and America cuisine, along with a decadent dessert bar, complete with a chocolate fountain.

On Wednesdays, Red Hot Rewards Club members can receive a complimentary commemorative Red Hot Rewards Club card. Each Wednesday in August will feature a different commemorative card; Red Hot Rewards members can collect all four. Every Thursday Red Hot Rewards Club members who register 100 points on their Red Hot Rewards card will receive a different free gift, including a FireKeepers’ beach towel, FireKeepers’ lawn chair and FireKeepers’ BBQ utensils set.

“We are proud of everything that we have accomplished in our first year at FireKeepers Casino,” commented R. Bruce McKee, FireKeepers’ General Manager. “We set out to be the casino of choice in Michigan through providing excellent guest service, along with a fun, friendly, vibrant and upscale atmosphere. Our guests agree that we have delivered on that goal. We are also very thankful to our 1,500 team members who have made this possible.”
