Flooding Forces Crow Tribe to Lay Off 150

High costs of flood repair have forced the Crow Tribe of Montana to lay off 150 employees, most of them recently hired, reported the The Billings Gazette.

The unexpected costs hit right as the tribe was facing a budget shortfall related to a decrease in mineral leases and other revenue.

“The only way we can survive is to let people go,” personnel director Kayle Howe told The Billings Gazette, adding that the tribe hopes to recoup money paid to workers who helped with the disaster relief, although that will take a while.
