Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Say Goodbye to Star Athlete

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians said goodbye to star basketball phenom, Dwaun Anderson, a tribal member who recently received a full scholarship to college basketball powerhouse Michigan State University, reported Indianz.com.

The ceremony was held at the tribe’s Strongheart Center, where Anderson grew up playing basketball.  The domed center is shaped like a turtle, an honor to one of the tribe’s main clans, and is located in the Eagle Valley area of the reservation. He donated his Suttons Bay High School basketball jersey to the tribe for display at the center.  He led his team to a 25-2 record and to the state tournament.

“We’re all immensely proud of Dwaun—and of all he’s accomplished and will accomplish for our tribe,” Chairman Derek Baily told the Leelanau Enterprise.
