Grant funding gives tribe $3.5M boost

Grant funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has given the Cherokee Nation a boost of about $3.5 million for the 2010-’11 fiscal year. Councilors unanimously approved modifying the budget to include the funding, bringing the total operating budget for the tribe to $584 million. Funding will be used to expand the facilities at the Cherokee Nation Hastings Indian Medical Center and provide a veterans’ health center, according to Councilor Jack Baker.
