Hopi Chief of Staff Resigns

On March 5, Curtis Honanie informed all Hopi tribal employees that he was resigning as Chief of Staff from the Office of Hopi Chairman LeRoy Shingoitewa.

Honanie, announced the resignation would be effective March 7 as he sought out other challenges in his life.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve as the Chief of Staff. During my time here I have met and worked with many dedicated and hard working tribal employees. I have learned so much from all of you. I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your programs to overcome many issues, as well as the respect and professionalism you have shown to me during our time together. We have made much progress, please continue to work hard and keep the best interest of our Hopi/Tewa people at heart,” Honanie said according to a tribal press release.

Micah Loma’omvaya, staff assistant, and Nicole Honanie, executive secretary, have been picked by Shingoitewa to oversee the daily activities in the interim. These duties include signing authority on memos, letters, leave slips, requisitions and timesheets on the chairman’s behalf.

“Curtis was a good leader and made great contributions to the Hopi Tribe,” Shingoitewa said in the release. “He will be missed. I support Curtis on his decision to pursue new challenges and wish him all the best.”
