Joe Starita, a professor of journalism in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will present a program about Chief Standing Bear at the Columbus Public Library Sunday, April 15.
Chief Standing Bear is the topic of Starita’s book, I Am a Man: Chief Standing Bear’s Journey for Justice, published in 2010. “The book chronicles what happened when Chief Standing Bear set off on a 600-mile walk to return the body of his only son to their traditional burial ground in Nebraska. It examines the complex relationship between the United States government and the small, peaceful Ponca tribe,” writes the Columbus Telegram.
The Columbus Public Library is located at 2504 14 Street, in Columbus, Nebraska.
