The Little Bear wildfire, currently raging in New Mexico’s White Mountain Wilderness and the Lincoln National Forest, has crossed into the Mescalero Apache Reservation. And it’s close to the the Ski Apache resort area, a major source of revenue for the tribe.
These photos were sent to ICTMN by a contact at the Ski Apache resort. As you can see, plenty of smoke and even flames are visible from the slopes.
At this time, the Little Bear fire is 40% contained and has burned nearly 38,000 acres, according to InciWeb. To date, the fire has destroyed 234 structures—224 residential buildings and 10 outbuildings. Two people have been injured due to heat related illnesses, but there have been no fatalities.
