Into the Nations: Native Peoples of Arkansas and Oklahoma, 1800-1870

The Fort Smith Historical Society, in Fort Smith, Arkansas is looking for papers, displays and living history presentations covering the Native American tribes of Arkansas and Oklahoma for the 4th Annual Fort Smith History Conference.

Submissions for consideration can cover the tribes’ way of life, contact with outsiders, slavery, freedmen, legislation, encroachment, genealogical information, teacher and classroom directed content, and any other subject that has to do with the tribes of Arkansas and Oklahoma from 1800 to 1870.

Proposals will also be accepted for guided off-site trips.

The conference is an interpretive academic program that will highlight the significance of Native Americans to Arkansas and Oklahoma. It will be held January 27 and 28, 2012 in Fort Smith and Van Buren, Arkansas.

One to two paragraph abstracts can be sent to historytellers@live.com before November 1, 2011. Those chosen will be notified before December 1 and will then have to submit a printed copy for publication in The Journal of the Fort Smith Historical Society.
