Eastern Washington University and the College of Arts, Letters, & Education invite applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Spanish in our Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. This tenure track position will begin mid-September 2013.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university that expects all faculty to demonstrate teaching excellence, professional growth, and service to the university, profession, and the community. The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers major degree programs in French and Spanish, leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Education, and minors in Japanese, German, French, Spanish, and Teaching English as a Second Language.

The person obtaining this position will teach introductory through upper-division courses in Spanish language, literature, and culture. She/he will also serve as departmental liaison with Education. Candidates should be dedicated to undergraduate education, have a commitment to P-12 Spanish language learning, and must have demonstrated excellence in teaching Spanish.

Eastern Washington University is located in Cheney, Washington, with a second campus located in Spokane (20 minutes from Cheney), as well as additional teaching/learning centers located in other cities throughout Washington State. The Cheney-Spokane area is the heart of the Inland Northwest, with excellent skiing, hiking, restaurants, theater, shopping, a choice of living in a medium-sized city or a small town, and high quality schools and housing. Enrollment has reached over 11,000 students.

Minimum Qualifications:

o PhD in Spanish is required; ABD candidates may be considered with the expectation that the Doctorate in Spanish will be conferred by 1/1/2014.

o Prior college teaching experience.

o Candidates must offer a background in Language Teaching Methodology; this will be assessed by reviewing your courses taken, teaching experience, and/or your research.

o Candidates should have demonstrated interest, experience or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

o P-12 teaching experience is preferred.
