Job Title: Manager – ALEKS Mathematics Lab

The College of Science, Health & Engineering at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a Mathematics Lab Manager position in the Department of Mathematics. This 75% time position is available now.
The ALEKS Mathematics Lab Manager will be responsible for explaining and relating mathematical concepts to students enrolled in developmental mathematics. The manager will counsel students on core mathematic concepts in order to help students reach proficiency in these core concepts. The manager will also track student progress in the ALEKS developmental mathematics program, and will track and communicate to students their progress towards completion of the modules.
The lab manager will be responsible for keeping computers secure in the new ALEKS lab; will maintain ALEKS developmental mathematics software on all lab computers, and manage software upgrades. The manager will assist faculty with technical problems that may arise in the use of ALEKS software.
The lab manager will hire and train student support staff for the lab, and will manage their work schedules and authorize timesheets. The manager will also attend developmental mathematics staff meetings and trainings.
Position is open until further notice. This position is available and is needed now. Preference may be given to candidates who are able to start in October. Screening will begin 9/27/2012. Master’s degree in Education, Science, Mathematics, or Mathematics Education.
Background in and understanding of core mathematic concepts.
Experience teaching developmental mathematics
Familiarity with computers and developmental mathematics software (preferably ALEKS).
Ability to relate complex mathematics to students in a developmental environment.
Familiarity and understanding of developmental mathematic research and best practices.
Strong interpersonal and verbal skills.
Demonstrated high degree of interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.
Proven ability to work with faculty.
Ability to work with diverse student population.
