The Department of Mathematics in the College of Science, Health & Engineering at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position located on our Cheney campus to begin September 2013 (or earlier if possible). The position is in an active, collaborative department that currently includes six mathematics education tenured or tenure-track faculty positions. The department seeks candidates who show the potential of becoming excellent teachers, scholars, mentors, and role models for students, and who are enthusiastic about teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate mathematics methods and content courses for prospective elementary and secondary teachers, teaching graduate level courses for teachers, developing curriculum for undergraduate and graduate mathematics education courses, and developing partnerships with area K-12 schools. Each successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and to develop and maintain an active research program related to K-12 mathematics.
Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university located in Cheney, 20 minutes from downtown Spokane. In addition to Eastern’s Cheney campus, we also offer our Riverpoint campus in Spokane, as well as additional teaching/learning centers located in other cities throughout Washington State. Earned doctorate in Mathematics Education or a closely related discipline is required; ABD candidates may be considered, but doctorate must be completed no later than three months following date of hire;
Mathematics teaching experience at or related to the K-12 level; and
Demonstrated potential for research related to K-12 mathematics;
Additionally, candidates must offer ability, experience and/or interest in promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.
Teaching experience at the K-8 level and a strong background in K-8 mathematics;
Experience with the use of technology to teach mathematics and for distance education.
