Montana GEAR UP
The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education seeks applicants for two positions with Montana’s Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP). These positions are located in Helena, Montana.
Applicants for the School Grant Manager and College Access Program Manager should have successful experience working with low-income and American Indian students in K-12, educational program management or teaching, and knowledge about college access programming. About Montana GEAR UP: The U.S. Department of Education awarded the Montana Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education a seven-year, $28 million GEAR UP grant in September 2011. The Montana GEAR UP program works with more than 5,000 students in eighteen middle schools and their receiving high schools in low income communities to develop a college-going culture. Thirteen of these schools are located on or near American Indian reservations.
Montana GEAR UP believes that postsecondary education is possible for all Montana students, regardless of economic background. Montana GEAR UP supports schools, students, and their families to increase students’ college and career readiness through various services, such as career and college awareness activities and resources, college readiness programs, financial aid information, academic preparation and enrichment activities, job shadowing, college visits, summer enrichment programs, counselor resources, professional development, and parent involvement programs. This is Montana’s third grant, with the first two grants being awarded in 1999 and 2005.
About the College Access Program Manager: Under the supervision of the GEAR UP Director, the College Access Program Manager serves in a leadership, role with college preparation and financial options programs for staff, students and families, including the planning, designing, implementation, operation, and evaluation of programs and services funded under GEAR UP. It is important to note that this position has limited direct work with students.
About the School Grant Manager: Under the supervision of the GEAR UP Director, the School Grant Manager serves in a leadership, consultative, and technical assistance role to school district personnel and the state team in the planning, designing, implementation, operation, and evaluation of programs and services funded under GEAR UP. It is important to note that this position does not include direct work with students.
