Medicine for the Salish Language

Four thousand copies of the book entitled “Selis nyo?nuntn: Medicine for the Salish Language” arrived at the Nkwusm Language Immersion School earlier this summer, The Missoulian reports. This is the second edition of the textbook, about 800 pages long (the first edition was just under 200 pages). According to the Nkwusm executive director Tachini Pete, there are about 50 fluent Salish speakers living today, and most of them are over the age of 75. Pete and other members of the Language School are hoping that their efforts will help to bring the Salish language back to life.
