Michele Palomaki, who has been working with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe for the past decade, was recently named the Assistant Commissioner of Administration.
In her new role she will help the Commissioner of Administration handle the day-to-day operations of the tribal government. Some of the duties will include managing human resources, finances, and contracts for the executive branch of Band government.
Since 2001, Palomaki, a Band member, has held many positions within the tribe, including the director of Circle of Health, a program that pays for deductibles, copays and health insurance premiums. Before coming to the tribe she worked in various aspects of the accounting and medical industries in Michigan.
“It is important for me to give back to the Band, which has provided me with countless opportunities,” she said. “I look forward to playing an instrumental role in the positive changes that are happening to the Band.”
According to a tribal press release she has an associate of science degree from Northern Michigan University and an associate of arts degree from Central Lakes College.
