Bison-on-a-stick? New York “street meat” lovers can line up to eat traditional Native American fare at the Bowling Green, New York-based food cart set to pop up outside of the National Museum of the American Indian this spring or early summer, according to DNAInfo.com.
“We wanted to bring the cultures alive through food,” said Ann Marie Sekeres, spokeswoman for the museum. “We thought it would be a fun way to engage tourists and local residents.”
Visitors and locals can taste bison, tamales, arepas, pumpkins, yucca, venison and more Native American specialties. Although if the food truck served food native to Manhattan’s original inhabitants, it would center on oysters, Sekeres told DNAInfo.com.
The truck would open for five days a week, keeping the Bowling Green farmer’s market running the other two days of the week.
The city is currently seeking operators to prepare the reasonably priced, healthy food. They also want to run an environmentally friendly operation. DNAInfo.com reports the truck may “place seating on Bowling Green and apply to serve alcohol in an enclosed area.”
