ICTMN has been asking our readers to send in cool photos of their Rez Pups. A few weeks ago, we sent out word on our Facebook page, Twitter and Google+ and we received some great submissions! Our first reach out for cool Rez pup photos was such a success – We decided to keep it going!
Thanks so much peeps in Indian country – we love to see these pups – so keep sending them if you live on or near a Rez!
If you’d like to submit your Rez Pup photo just send us an e-mail at RezPups@Gmail.com along with a picture, your dog’s name and age, owner’s name, rez you’re from (or near) and city and state – we’ll be glad to post your Rez Pup Pics!
Luke, Olivia and Sweetie
Hey Clainia, thanks so much for sending this great collage of three gorgeous looking rez pups from the the Montana First Nation in Maskwacis, Alberta, Canada. Clainia says her family pets are Luke (half yorkie, half rez mutt), Olivia (Pyrenees), and Sweetie (half Shih Tzu, half Pomeranian). She says they are very much a part of the family and very loved! She also says Olivia has 3 legs after losing one after being hit by a car.
Blessings to Olivia, but isn’t three legs a requirement in some locations? Who hasn’t loved a three-legged rez dog somewhere in their life? Cool picture!
Grizzly Bear and Redna
According to Jackie Allen, Grizzly bear from Skokomish, Washington, belongs to her son Abel and is 3 years old. This Husky/German shepherd mix loves the water. Redna is her other gorgeous rez pup that is also part Husky as well as being a true survivor. “(Redna) lived on the rez for 2 years then we claimed her,” wrote Allen in an e-mail to us.
Fitz – the stylish Chihuahua
Faith Price submitted her photos of her stylin Chihuahua Fitz. According to Faith Price, “He’s grown up an urban doggie, in Pullman, Washington, but vacations on the Flathead Reservation in Montana, (with his owners Faith Price and her daughter Daliyah Tang.) “He’s almost two now, but in a couple of these pics he’s about six months old.
Faith has a sewing hobby and keeps Fitz well stocked in doggy fashion.
Wasichu from Pine Ridge
Wasichu from Pine Ridge looks like she is ‘straight chillin’ on her owner’s bed. Ella Bare says her rez pup Wasichu is a Maltese growing up steeped in tradition and from the looks of her cool and relaxed pose, we think you got it right on!
Patsy Cline Sanchez
Patsy Cline Sanchez is a 10-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. According to her owners, Stacey and Lena Sanchez, both of the Jicarilla Apache Nation in north-central New Mexico, this rez pup has been raised as a Jicarilla Apache, even though she’s lived much of her life in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
“She DOES prefer the cool mountains of the rez,” wrote Stacey Sanchez, “In fact, in the picture, she’s fishing with her humans at Enbom Lake on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation!”
Fat Boy – Rez Roaming Black Lab
Joshua Sales, a GIS Analyst from the Sac and Fox of the Mississippi in Iowa sent us a few pics of Fat Boy, a beautiful Black Lab whose territory, according to Sales, “is roughly 2 miles between his owner, Daly Wabaunasee and the Tribal Center.”
“Fat Boy is approximately 3 years old and very popular as the black lab roaming the tribal offices. He knows everybody and every dog, recruits pack members, and essentially lives a good life roaming free. He is a gorgeous, intelligent, power, sweet dog,” says Sales.
Buddy – Cuteness Overload!
This rez pup named Buddy belongs to Guy and Caroline Monague of Beausoleil First Nation. Caroline calls him their rez buddy and just another one of their four legged children. At just one year old and just dripping with cuteness, he is part Golden Retriever and part Golden Lab – he might even be part cotton ball.
Nina – The Akwesasne Rez Guard Dog
Nina hails from one of ICTMN’s own. Ray Cook our editorial chief on opinion pieces sent us a few pics of Nina, who looks like she is constantly on the watch for something. Don’t worry Nina, the RCMP or NY State Police aren’t allowed in Mohawk Territory – at least we think that’s right.
