The body of a 3-year-old boy who was found in a freezer at a home on the Barona Indian Reservation in San Diego, California, last month has been identified.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the boy as Roland Eagleyes Meza Sandoval. The cause of death is still being investigated.
On January 16, Sandoval’s mother, Elaina Rose Welch, 32, called police claiming her son was dead. Welch exited the home with a shotgun in hand, but was detained. When San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies entered the home they found the body of Welch’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Julio Ricardo Monggiotti. He had been shot to death, according San Diego ABC News affiliate 10 News.
The next day, Sandoval’s body was found in a freezer in the garage under some frozen food.
Welch was charged with two counts of murder. Then, on January 22, all charges were dropped and she was released from jail.
