Trayvon Martin Shooter George Zimmerman Questioned in Domestic Dispute Involving Gun

George Zimmerman, the Florida man who shot teenager Trayvon Martin dead in the name of self-defense, is being held for questioning in a domestic dispute with his estranged wife and her father, according to reports.

"As of right now, (George Zimmerman) has been placed in investigative detention," Lake Mary police spokesman Zach Hudson said according to CNN, which reported that Zimmerman had been threatening his father-in-law, Colin Morgan, with a gun.

Just two months ago Zimmerman was acquitted on murder charges in the death of the unarmed 17-year-old after the shooting on February 26, 2012, which he said was in self-defense.

The incident comes the week after his wife, Shellie Zimmerman, filed for divorce.

Reports conflicted on whether George Zimmerman had actually threatened anyone with the gun. Hudson told CNN that the gun “was not part of the altercation.” However, ABCNews.com reported that she told her attorney “that Zimmerman pulled a knife on her today after she discovered a firearm in the house they shared. He then pulled a gun on her and her father after a verbal altercation went bad, according to attorney Kelly Sims.”

Shellie Zimmerman was the one to call 911, CNN said. Hudson told the news network that it is standard procedure to place “anybody suspected of doing anything” into “investigative detention” pending the outcome of a complete investigation.

Trayvon lost his life on February 26, 2012, when Zimmerman began following him home from a convenience store, where the teen had bought tea and Skittles. Zimmerman later stated in a police report that he had followed the boy home because it was odd to see him out and about by himself at night given a rash of burglaries in his neighborhood.
