Video: ICTMN’s Man on the Street: How Many Tribes Are There?

Considering the Pamunkey’s bid for federal recognition appears promising after the positive preliminary findings last week, ICTMN’s Vincent Schilling aka our ‘Man on the Street” ventured out in 20 degree weather to ask people the following question:

Do you know how many federally recognized tribes there are in the United States?

Currently there are 566 federally recognized tribes in the United States and if the Pamunkey is successful in their bid for recognition, we’ll be seeing the number climb to 567. They would also be the first of the Virginia tribes to get recognition.

Unsurprisingly, many of the people interviewed didn’t know the number, but a few came a bit close.
