NSU’s Yellow Ribbon Program renewed by VA for Second Year

Since the introduction of the Post-9/11 GI Bill many colleges around the country have incorporated programs to assist United States military veterans achieve academic success.

Northeastern State University is one of those colleges. Through its Yellow Ribbon program, now in its third year, veterans from throughout the U.S. are able to enroll at NSU at a reduced tuition rate. For the second year in a row the program was renewed by the Veterans Administration and will provide funding to 100 undergraduate and 50 graduate students.

This program helps to assist students from states that are not involved in a reciprocity program with Oklahoma. Reciprocity programs are agreements between Oklahoma and some surrounding states allowing veterans to attend NSU at a cost similar to that of attending their home state schools.

“NSU is a recognized veteran-friendly campus,” Mark Kinders, vice president for university relations. “As veterans from other states learn about the strength of our academic programs and our campus culture, we hope they will choose to attend NSU.”

NSu like other colleges aim to attract talented individuals through its veterans programs.

“Veterans, through their maturity and experiences, will contribute substantially to the learning environment,” Kinders said. “With their commitment to public service, we hope they will attend NSU and choose to remain in Oklahoma, to the betterment of our state.”

Participation is applied for and granted on an annual basis. For more information, visit www.nsuok.edu/veterans.
