Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino employees pledged to lose weight to benefit their community food bank through the Pound For Pound Challenge, promoted on NBC-TV’s show the “Biggest Loser.”  For every pound a team member participating in the challenge pledges to lose, the Pound For Pound Challenge donates 11 cents to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization that aids more than 200 food banks throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

According to the Pound For Pound Challenge rules, 11 cents is “enough to secure one pound of groceries on behalf of local food banks.” For team members who pledge to maintain their healthy weight rather than lose weight, the challenge will donate five pounds of food to the chosen local community food bank.

More than 40 Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino employees signed up for the challenge. All weight lost by the Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino team will go to help benefit the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, which serves 460 partner programs throughout 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma.

“For every dollar the Food Bank receives, we are able to distribute seven meals,” said Susan Tilkin, communications manager at the Food Bank. Collectively, various northeastern Oklahoma teams have pledged to lose 26,366 total pounds. The Osage casino employees pledged to lose 1,048 total pounds.

“Our employees are continuing to be encouraged to live a healthier lifestyle and we can help by joining this cause to raise money to fight hunger,” said Becky Johnson, director of human resources for Osage Million Dollar Elm Casinos, which is owned and operated by the Osage Nation. “It’s as easy as pledging to lose a few pounds.”
