Play Golf American Day will be hosted at Turning Stone Resort’s Atunyote Golf Club near Verona, New York on Monday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The PGA and the NB3 Foundation are holding this event in an attempt to target youth and their families, and it will include a clinic from PGA Tour Professional Notah Begay III, fitness training from David Donatucci, Director of Fitness and Performance for the PGA Tour of America, and free golf lessons and clinics from Central New York PGA professionals. There will also be presentations on health and nutrition, which is all in keeping with the NB3 Foundation’s mission to lower rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes in Indian Country.
The PGA of American and the NB3 Foundation are planning on hosting three Play Golf Native America events this coming fall.
“The goal of the partnership (between the PGA of American and the NB3 Foundation) is to create more opportunities for Native Americans to receive culturally appropriate junior golf programming, access to golf equipment and golf courses, and fitness and nutrition programming to help Native American youth and their families enjoy the sport of golf for a lifetime,” the NB3 Foundation said in a press release.
The two remaining events will be held after the NB3 Foundation Challenge, which tees off on Wednesday, August 31. These next two Play Golf Native American events will take place in September and November as part of the National Obesity Prevention Month and National Native American Heritage Month at Native American owned golf facilities.
