The Santa Clara Pueblo was severely affected by storms and flooding September 13 – 16. On October 24, President Barack Obama declared a major disaster exists for the tribal community in Espanola, New Mexico.
Federal funding has been made available for the federally recognized tribe along with certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work as a result of the severe storms and flooding according to the White House.
Nancy M. Casper was named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area by W. Craig Fugate, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Additional designations could be made at a later date if requested by the tribe and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
