Video: Black Mesa’s Dirty Business: Slow Death by Coal

In northern Arizona's Black Mesa region, many Navajo are hoping President Barack Obama’s policy to move away from fossil fuels will help reduce environmental and health concerns from the coal industry. Navajo residents in Northern Arizona have been urging officials to do more to clean up what they describe as harmful air and water pollution. But energy officials there won’t be immediate help for the Black Mesa region and other parts of Indian country affected by coal. Growing energy demands and the still developing alternative energy industry mean coal will have to play a big role in supplying electricity for years to come.
