When Cheryl Flores and her husband Edward Flores Jr. went to Foxwoods Resort Casino to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, they had no idea they’d have a lot more to celebrate by the time they left.
The President’s Day getaway weekend yielded a jackpot of $25,319.28 to the New Jersey couple. Cheryl Flores was playing the $1 Life of Luxury game in the Pequot casino when she won.
“To be lucky enough to celebrate 25 years of marriage is wonderful in itself,” said Flores. “To celebrate by winning $25,000 is absolutely incredible. I think it’s safe to say that Foxwoods will be our anniversary trip for years to come”
Two more winners walked away with big bucks that weekend. Melanie Gageant won $67,100.74 in the MGM Grand Casino. Gageant, a resident of North Adams, Mass., was playing the Double Diamond penny machine when she hit her jackpot. And Fitchburg, Mass., resident Ralph Tracy was $50,000 richer after hitting the jackpot on a $1 slot machine in the Rainmaker Casino at Foxwoods.
Foxwoods has paid out more than $289,854,000 in jackpot winnings to lucky patrons during the 2010 fiscal year, according to the casino management.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation owns Foxwoods and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, the country’s largest casino. The casino pays 25 percent of their slot revenues to the state of Connecticut under the tribal-state gaming compact and had contributed more than $3.1 billion to the state since January 1993 when slot machines were first introduced at Foxwoods.
