Here at Indian Country Today Media Network, we’re always thrilled to showcase incredible photography, which has the spirit behind our ongoing pow wow portrait series. Shot by professional photographer Diego James Robles, this series has been wowing visitors to our site and readers of our print magazine for weeks.
In addition to soliciting professional portraits and other stunning photographer from the professional world, we’re also open, and eager, to receiving photos from our readers, be they amateur photos or photos taken at their events by their own photographers.
So far, we’ve yet to receive any photos that didn’t look professionally done, and in the case of the photos we received from the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, they were professional. A big thanks to Michelle Alaimo, the tribe’s photojournalist for their bi-monthly publication Smoke Signals. Michelle sent us these photos from the Marcellus Norwest Memorial Veterans pow wow, which takes place the second weekend of every July (this year it is July 6-8) and the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Contest Powwow, which takes place the third weekend of every August, (this year it is Aug. 17-19). Both take place at the Uyxat Powwow Grounds in Grand Ronde. The contest pow wow is one of the largest contest powwows in the Northwest.
The Confederated Tribes include the Rogue River, Umpqua, Chasta, Kalapuya, Molalla, Salmon River, Tillamook and Nestucca Indians.
Enjoy the photos, and please, if you’d like to see your stunning shots end up on Indian Country Today Media Network, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org
